Not getting notifications

Step 1 of 4: Check the account on this phone. Go back to your list of circles. Tap the person icon to open Profile. This phone gets notifications for this name and email.

Step 2 of 4: Check the notification groups. Scroll to Notifications. One switch per group. They apply to you in every circle.

Step 3 of 4: Check quiet hours. Scroll to Quiet hours. Is Enable quiet hours on? During quiet hours, some alerts wait and some are skipped.

Step 4 of 4: Check who gets dose reminders. Go back and open the circle. The bell marks who gets dose reminders. The owner taps a family member. Medication reminders: who gets them for every medication. Close without changing anything.

Free on iOS and Android.

Steps

  1. Check the phone: in your phone's Settings, find CircleCare and make sure notifications are allowed. If they're blocked, Profile in the app shows “Notifications are blocked” with an “Open Settings” button.
  2. Check the account: open Profile on that phone and confirm it shows your name and email.
  3. Check the notification groups: in Profile, under “Notifications”, make sure the groups you want are on.
  4. Check quiet hours: in Profile, under “Quiet hours”, see if “Enable quiet hours” is on and what times it covers.
  5. Check who the reminder is for: dose reminders and task reminders go to specific people, not always to everyone.

Notifications depend on the phone, the account and a few settings. Here's what each check means.

1. The phone allows CircleCare notifications

If notifications were turned off for CircleCare (or never allowed), the phone silently drops them. In the app, Profile shows Notifications are off or Notifications are blocked with a button to turn them on. A Focus or Do Not Disturb mode on the phone can also hide them.

2. The phone is signed in to the right account

A phone gets notifications for one CircleCare account at a time: the one most recently signed in on it. If a shared family phone or tablet was last signed in as someone else, it gets that person's notifications, not yours. Sign in with your own account on your own phone and open the app once. Signing out doesn't stop a phone's notifications; signing in with another account does.

3. Notification groups

In Profile, under Notifications, there is one switch per group, such as Medications, Tasks & appointments, Notes and Daily update & tips. They apply to your account in every circle. If a group shows Some turned off, part of it is off.

4. Quiet hours

During your quiet hours, some notifications are held until the end and some are skipped. See Quiet hours and turning notifications off.

5. Who each reminder goes to

  • Dose reminders go to one person: the member the owner chose for Medication reminders (this covers every medication in the circle), or the care recipient if they are in the circle, or otherwise the circle owner. That person gets the reminders before and at the dose time, and the alert 15 minutes later. If the chosen member has view-only access, these go to the care recipient or the owner instead. Later missed-dose alerts reach more people in the circle. Reminder times are set on each medication. See How reminders and missed-dose alerts work.
  • Task reminders go to the person the task is assigned to. A task set to "Anyone" reminds everyone in the circle who can act on it.
  • If your seat in a circle is view-only, you don't get that circle's notifications. See Owners, caregivers, care recipients and view-only.

6. The web doesn't send notifications

The web companion lets you change your notification settings, but it does not deliver notifications. Install the app on your phone to receive them. See Use CircleCare on a computer.
