Quiet hours and turning notifications off

Quiet hours hold most notifications until your quiet time ends, so you catch up in the morning. Reminders that only make sense ahead of time, like “in 15 minutes”, are skipped. You can also turn whole groups of notifications off in Profile.

Step 2 of 6: Turn on quiet hours. Turn on Enable quiet hours. Start and End appear.

Step 3 of 6: Set Start and End. Tap Start. Pick 8 PM, then tap Confirm. Quiet hours: 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Step 4 of 6: Save quiet hours. Tap Save quiet hours. They're yours alone, in your time zone. Late-dose alerts wait until quiet hours end. Reminders before a dose are skipped.

Step 5 of 6: Turn off a type of notification. Under Notifications, one switch per type. Turning off Medications asks first. Here we keep it on.

Step 6 of 6: A dose inside quiet hours. Open the circle and add a medication. Pick a time: Every evening, 8:00 PM. It's inside your quiet hours: no reminder then. Taken at night? Move your quiet hours.

Free on iOS and Android.

Steps

  1. Open Profile. On a phone, go back to your list of circles and tap the person icon at the top.
  2. Under “Quiet hours”, turn on “Enable quiet hours”.
  3. Set “Start” and “End”.
  4. Tap “Save quiet hours”. Turning quiet hours off saves right away. On the web, changes save on their own.
  5. To turn off a type of notification, use the switches under “Notifications”.

Quiet hours are yours alone. They follow your time zone and don't change anything for other people in the circle. New accounts start with quiet hours off.

What happens during quiet hours

Held and delivered when quiet hours end:

  • Alerts that a dose is late or wasn't marked. If someone marks the dose during the night, the alert is dropped, and several alerts about the same dose arrive as one.
  • Updates from the circle: a dose taken or skipped, a new note, a task assigned to you, a new appointment, a task completed, refill alerts.
  • Shift alerts that are still useful later: a shift was dropped, shifts were reopened because someone left the circle, and, for the owner and managers, a shift still open a day before it starts.

Skipped, not delivered later:

  • Reminders before or at a dose's time ("in 1 hour", "in 15 minutes", "Time for medication"). Sending them in the morning would be wrong. If the dose still isn't marked about 15 minutes after its time, the follow-up alert is held for the morning instead.
  • Task and appointment reminders that say how soon something is due.
  • Shift alerts for a new open shift, a shift someone took or assigned to you, shift reminders and time changes.

When you add a medication and its time falls inside your own quiet hours, the app warns you that no reminder will be sent then. It only checks your quiet hours, and only when the reminder goes to you. If a medication is taken at night, shorten or move quiet hours so the reminder can come through.

If quiet hours cover almost the whole day, the app warns you that notifications will be held until the end time.

Turn off types of notifications

In Profile, under Notifications:

  • Medications: doses taken, skipped or not marked. Turning this off means you won't be told when a dose isn't marked, so the app asks you to confirm.
  • Tasks & appointments: when something's assigned to you and before it's due.
  • Notes: when someone adds a note.
  • Daily update & tips: your daily update and helpful nudges.
  • Shifts: new open shifts, shift reminders and changes to your shifts. See Plan who is on care shifts.

These switches apply to your account in every circle. The reminder times for each medication are set on the medication itself. See How reminders and missed-dose alerts work.

Notifications only arrive on a phone with the app installed. See Not getting notifications.
