How reminders and missed-dose alerts work

At dose time the care recipient (or the person chosen to handle their reminders) gets a push. If nobody marks the dose, CircleCare follows up at 15 minutes, 30 minutes and 1 hour, reaching more of the circle each time.

How reminders and missed-dose alerts work

Step 1 of 5: Choose who gets the reminder. At dose time, one person gets the reminder. The owner taps a family member. Tap Medication reminders, then Switch. Now Tom gets the reminders.

Step 2 of 5: Each medication has reminders. Tap New, then Medication. Every medication has Reminders. At the scheduled time: the main alert. Add earlier reminders if you like.

Step 3 of 5: If nobody marks the dose. Tap the info icon. 15 minutes: another reminder. 30 minutes: the caregivers are told. 1 hour: everyone in the circle.

Step 4 of 5: Turn them off for one medication. Switch off Enable notifications. No reminder and no alerts for this medication. Here we cancel without saving.

Step 5 of 5: Your own settings in Profile. Go back to your list of circles. Tap the person icon to open Profile. Medications: turn off dose updates and missed-dose alerts for you. Quiet hours: reminders are skipped and alerts wait.

Free on iOS and Android.

The reminder

At the scheduled time, a push notification goes to one person:

  1. the member the owner chose for Medication reminders, if there is one,
  2. otherwise the care recipient,
  3. otherwise the circle owner.

To choose that member, the owner opens Home, taps the person under Care team, and taps Medication reminders (then Switch, if someone else already gets them). A check mark shows who gets them; tap Medication reminders again to send them back to the care recipient.

You can also turn on Earlier reminders: 24 hours before, 1 hour before, 30 minutes before or 15 minutes before.

If nobody marks the dose

| Time after the dose | Who is told |

|---|---|

| 15 minutes | The person who gets the reminders |

| 30 minutes | The caregivers in the circle |

| 1 hour | Everyone in the circle |

The alerts stop as soon as someone marks the dose Taken or Skipped. CircleCare never marks a dose "missed" by itself: the dose stays Not marked until someone marks it. These follow-ups are included on the free plan. People with view-only access don't get reminders or these alerts.

Quiet hours

During your quiet hours, reminders and earlier reminders are not sent. Missed-dose alerts wait and arrive when quiet hours end, unless the dose was marked in the meantime. If several alerts waited for the same dose, only the latest one arrives.

Good to know

  • Push only works on phones. The web app does not send notifications, so install the app on your phone and allow notifications. See Not getting notifications.
  • Turning reminders off for a medication stops both the reminder and the follow-up alerts for it.
  • To stop dose updates and missed-dose alerts just for you, go to Profile and turn off Medications under Notifications. This does not stop the dose reminders sent to you.
